Otello Workshop
Stephen Langridge / Fraser Trainer
Can you imagine being so jealous that you kill the person you love? How is that possible? How can an emotion be so self-destructive? In this three day workshop we will explore the theme through making our own music and theatre – and then putting together a show. We’ll also have a trip to the festival production of Verdi’s Otello, which grapples with the same problems.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re into Erci E. or Giuseppe Verdi – because we’ll be making our own music not copying somebody else’s – and you don’t need any musical or theatrical experience (but great if you have, whatever the style). You just need an interest in having a go. It’s going to be hard work: tiring probably, exhilarating definitely – and you will learn some new tricks.
The workshop leaders, Fraser Trainer, composer, and Stephen Langridge, theatre director, have lead creative music and theatre projects in a wide range of unconventional settings – from South African Townships to British Prisons – as well as working for some of Europe’s best known orchestras and opera companies.
